Blog Post #1: The Beginning
I’ve never wanted to be on the wrong side of history. Not once.
And while I’ve been portrayed that way at times, my intentions have always been rooted in reflection and responsibility.
I did not begin speaking up to be popular or well liked. I began speaking up because I reached a point of personal clarity that required me to reassess what I had previously accepted and to examine systems through a more informed lens.
Anyone who has walked a similar path understands that this kind of awareness does not come easily. It requires emotional labor, persistence, and a willingness to endure discomfort in order to advocate for improvement rather than remain silent.
It is important to acknowledge where this began.
There was a moment when I found myself in a setting where concerns were being discussed. In that room, I looked around and began to understand the scope of the issues before me. I also recognized that some of the individuals present would later be involved in decisions and actions that shaped what followed.
I chose to raise questions about practices and patterns that, in my view, warranted closer examination. That decision was made in good faith and with the intent of transparency, and it marked a turning point.
From there, the trajectory changed.
Not because of popularity or personal gain, but because accountability and clarity matter, especially when the well being of others is involved.
The video below was the first time I spoke out publicly (2022) to address the issue of retaliation, corruption, and abuse of power in Macon County, NC.
Stay alert. Stay curious.
And watch the corners.
